A Car Club for Oxford
We're a group of local residents wanting to see the
benefits of a car club in our area (East Oxford/Florence Park).
- Car clubs give access to cars without the burden of expense of ownership.
- The car gets a guaranteed space to park.
- Pavements freed up for pedestrians
Loads of cities in the UK have them.
Car clubs are
about shared use of a fleet of cars. As a member you get access to a
variety of vehicles, kept in marked car club parking bays, a few minutes
walk from your home.
- You just book
the car - most clubs allow you to do this online, on the phone
or by text, several months, days or just a few minutes in advance
- Pick it up - with your own smart card to open and start the car
- Use it - for as little as half an hour
- Return it - and just forget about it until you need one again
There are car
clubs throughout London and in about 42 other locations all over the
UK (12 locations in the South East including Brighton, Cambridge, Portsmouth,
Southampton, St. Albans, Reading, and Winchester).*
We'd like
to know what you think. If you're interested we've got a quick survey
online survey online.
There are lots of benefits
Easier:
- Access to a car when you need one.
- A guaranteed parking space in a street near you.
- None of the hassle of ownership.
Cheaper: *
- You're only
paying for the car when you use it. No tax, no insurance, no resident
permit costs, no service bills.
- For example,
if you drive less than 6,000 miles per year a car club could save you
over £1000 a year. If you replace a second family car with car club
membership you could save even more.

you could save - www.carclubs.org.uk/ costcalculator
Greener:*
- Joining a car club, instead of
running your own car, is a big step towards improving your environmental
footprint - car club cars are more environmentally friendly and are
used more efficiently. One car club car replaces between 10 and 20 private
cars - less traffic and lots more free parking spaces. You can cut
your contribution to congestion, pollution and the clutter on your street.
- We think a
Car club in East Oxford could make a real difference to our
streets: ease our congestion, give residents cheaper access to cars,
allow the Controlled Parking Zone to keep more pavements free of parked
cars.
