Commonwheels, working in conjunction with Oxcar, a local residents group, launched a Car Club in East Oxford in November 2008 with 4 cars. We now have 7, and will have more soon. This means you can borrow a car whenever you want for as little as half an hour at very low cost. All you need to do is become a member first, and membership is FREE.
We anticipate doubling the number of cars provided, and the membership, by next spring, and are seeking suitable vehicles from existing and potential members. See Sharing your car - you get all the bills paid for you, and you still can use the car whenever you want.
The Commonwheels cars are located within a few minutes walk of each other: Marston Street; Divinity Road; Southfield Road; Hertford St; Hurst St; Bedford Street; Campbell Road (Florence Park); and Kennet Road (Headington).
As we grow, we can locate more cars where members need them. We aim to keep cars utilised no more than 30% of the time to ensure there's always a choice of car available. In the immediate future, we will increase the number of cars close to the Iffley Fields / East Oxford area, and expand to the Temple Cowley/Florence Park area.
Membership is FREE, although we do require a deposit which is fully refundable when you leave – it's a lot cheaper than buying or replacing a car. Please join and help us grow!

It's inexpensive to borrow a car, you just pay a small fee per hour, and per mile
Details of all the cars is available to allow you to choose
which you prefer - we deliberately have a range so you can choose a large or small car,
and select the features you desire. Alternatively you might prefer to get to know
the car closest to you. We try not to change car locations unless we have to.
